Medvedev wants to establish international financial centre in Russia
[04.06.10]
Russia’s President Dmitrij Medvedev held a meeting in the Central Bank to discuss the prospects of establishing an international financial centre in Russia.
The President noted that the work in this area should start with a detailed analysis of conditions that influence the choice of foreign investors and other financial market players interested in such a centre. These conditions should be attractive and comfortable, Mr Medvedev stressed, saying that it’s not just the legislation that is meant here but also the ways this legislation is implemented by government authorities, the way the rights and interests of businessmen are protected. Dmitrij Medvedev also reminded the meeting that a special working group is being created under the Presidential Executive Office to coordinate the work on the establishment of the financial centre, including measures to improve legislation.
Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Alexej Kudrin made a presentation at the meeting, taking a favourable view of Russia’s global financial market capabilities. According to Mr Kudrin, the legal base that is necessary for the work of both Russian and foreign investors will be created in the next couple of years. (Source: official website of the Kremlin).
