Russia`s President Dmitry Medvedev has opened the 14th Economic Forum in St. Petersburg. In his words of welcome, he pointed out Russia’s 4% economic growth this year and added that Russia was prepared to consider tax reductions, provided the economic situation grows favourable.
He also said that the Russian leaders’ top priority today was the creation of an investor-friendly market. According to Medvedev, it is investment activities that are a decisive factor in developing and modernizing the Russian economy.

The Russian leader, besides, offered assurances that Russia was prepared to join the WTO, as well as the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, which does not run counter to the setting up of the Customs Union of Russia, Kazakhstan and Belarus. The moves complement each other, rather than contradict each other, the Russian leader said.
The Russian President is scheduled to meet, in the framework of the forum, heads of state, prominent researchers, and also banking community officials and major international company CEOs.
