President Medvedev to promote Russian-US business cooperation
[22.06.10]
The Kremlin hopes that when in the United States on the 22nd through 24th of June, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev will be able to effectively negotiate a fresh impetus to promoting Russian-US economic cooperation, above all in the filed of innovations. This came in a statement by the Russian presidential assistant Sergei Prikhodko.
According to the official, the parties to the forthcoming talks will basically focus on promoting cooperation in the field of innovations and high technologies. It is for that reason that the first city that Medvedev will pay a visit to will be San Francisco and the Silicon Valley innovations centre, rather than the capital city Washington.
The “New York Times” compares Medvedev`s trip to the USA with the travels of Peter the Great to the West at the end of the 17th century. He came back with a lot of impulses and started radical reforms.
The German news magazine „Der Spiegel“ writes that Medvedev`s travel to California and Silicon Valley is a part of his vision to create a “Smart Russia” – which does not depend on military strength and the export of oil, gas and other raw material.
The summit’s international agenda features key international and regional problems, including Iran’s nuclear programme, the situation on the Korean Peninsula, in the Middle East, in Kyrgyzstan and Afghanistan.
