[05.07.10] The Presidents of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan have signed a statement on the coming into force of the Customs Union Code. The trilateral alliance will become operational as of July 6th, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev told a news conference earlier today, reports The Voice of Russia.
He was speaking in the wake of the Astana-held summit of EurAsEC, an economic community of Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan. The Kyrgyz and Tajik leaders, Roza Otunbayeva and Emomali Rahmon, said that they see it as likely to join the Customs Union in future, when the situation is ripe.

The Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev, the summit host, described EurAsEC (the Eurasian Economic Community) as the most effective integration alliance in the post-Soviet area. He said that the EurAsEC next summit is due in Moscow in the second half of December this year.
