The aim of the Forum ”MEF-2009“is to establish an All-Russian platform for the dialogue between the leading representatives of business, government and expert circles regarding cooperation in the Barents Euro-Arctic Region. The Forum – where over 800 participants and journalists are expected – will be based on the new conditions of stabilization and increase of competitiveness of the national economy, creation of the new centre of the economic growth in the Russian North.
The 1st International Economic Forum is organized by the government of the Murmansk Region with support of the government of the Russian Federation. General sponsors are Gazprom, Total and StatoilHydro.
According to the organizers the participants will be: Officials from the federal authorities, executive bodies of the entities of the Russian Federation, representatives of the diplomatic, trade missions and expert circles as well as chief executives of major Russian and international companies.
The programme of the Forum is aiming at discussions of the economical development strategy of the North and Arctic within ”The concept of the social and economical development of Russia till 2020“.
Urgent questions concerning the guarantee of the national interests of the Russian Federation in Arctic will be submitted to the attention of the Forum participants: development of the energy sector, fishing industry, fish processing and natural management in the North of Russia.
Special attention will be focused on further development of Shtokman gas condensate field as a significant project for the world economy and the increasing significance of the Murmansk Region as the starting point of the North-South transport transit corridor.
The MEF-2009 will consists of the following events: Plenary meeting ”Development Strategy of Arctic XXI“, topical conferences, roundtable discussions, the exhibitions ”SevTEK“ and ”Investment projects of the regions of Russia“.
FLAIT Murmansk has been chosen by the organizers to be officially responsible for the accommodation and transportation of the participants. “It is a big challenge to find hotel rooms for all participants. In addition to the usual hotels also ships and places outside of the center will be used”, says a representative of FLAIT. “We strongly recommend to make reservation as early a possible. Already in July most of the rooms in the best hotels are booked”.
