Governor Dmitrienko: Shtokman will start production in 2016

The Governor of the Murmansk Region, Dmitrij Dmitrienko, shared his view about the progress in the development of the Shtokman project in an interview with the Moscow newspaper Vremya Novostey. Barentsnova.com has translated the interview into English.
“ According to the plan, the Kola Peninsula will get the gas extracted from the Arctic shelf; a trunk pipeline will be constructed through the region’s territory; for Teriberka there are plans to construct a LNG plant to deliver the gas both by sea and through the pipeline of Nord Stream at its second run.
The investment decision is to be taken in March 2011. The pre-studies on the gas phase are over and I have reported about that to both the President and the Prime Minister. We were assured that the (production of gas in the) first phase of Shtokman is to start in 2016 the latest. Gazprom has already started to finance preliminary works. The lands are allocated for the gas complex/storage facilities and for the pipeline.
The current challenge is to choose the technology for the works offshore: either to deliver the semi-product from the sea to the shore by pipeline for further processing, or to construct a powerful platform offshore that would process the hydrocarbons at the site producing the final product and delivering it to the shore.
These disputes should be solved by the end of this year. In June, they will approve the scheme for power supply of Shtokman. If everything goes according to the plan, we will get the gas in 2016.
