In the ramshackle gymnasium of an unheated school in this village near Murmansk, Shtokman AG met with the public last Thursday to discuss aspects of the Environmental, Social and Health Impact Assessment (ESHIA) and to gather opinion from locals on the Shtokman oil field project, which will impact this small hamlet profoundly. FIBA, the Foreign Investors Business Association, is organising a day excursion to Teriberka – the main hub for the development of the Shtokman gas field. The excursion will take place on the 2nd of June. So far 42 persons are registered as participants, so there are still some few places left.

Murmansk regional investigating committee announced legal proceedings against the mayor of Teriberka. The accusation concerns Article 293 of Russian legal code, i.e. negligence, writes Barentsnova.com. Mr. Yarantsev rejects the accusation and says that authorities have violated his rights by confiscating documents and computers from his office on Monday.

Shtokman News has been on an excursion from Murmansk to Teriberka on Friday, the 14th of May to see the progress in the preparation work for the Shtokman-project. “We can confirm that the work is going on with full speed”, says Shtokman News editor Ulrich Kreuzenbeck. Also the mayor of Teriberka, Valerij Yarantsev, usually a very critical and skeptical person told that things are going on.

We will meet the mayor of Teriberka, a representative of the local Shtokman Development office and get some updated information about the status of concrete activities regarding preparations before the official start of the Shtokman-project in 2011. In addition information about planned investments will be on the agenda. Only 2 persons from each company / organization can participate.

According to FLAIT-director Ulrich Kreuzenbeck this summer several groups will find their way to Teriberka, the fishing hamlet which has been chosen as the main hub for Shtokman operations. His company has already received several orders for daytrips of small and some quite large groups during this summer. FLAIT-Group owns through its daughter-company FLAIT Invest the abundant school in Teriberka which shall be transformed into a modern hotel. Already in summer 2010 they will offer temporary facilities for groups who want to make a one day study trip or an excursion from Murmansk to the interesting village at the coast of the Barents Sea.

A Murmansk Shipping Company Ship can become a temporary home for the builders of the LNG plant in Teriberka.

Shtockman Development AG has addressed the public corporation Murmansk Shipping Company with an idea to use one of the passenger ships as a camp for the builders of LNG plant in Teriberka.

March 15, 2009 Sunday morning, a small group of five, we started our trip from Murmansk. Two of us came from the new company Murman Personal Ltd, two from Olen Berong Ltd and one from Malthus Ltd. We walked along the main square of the village. Teriberka became open for foreigners from January 1, 2009.

The governor of the Murmansk region has taken the problems of Teriberka under his personal control.

That was a result of his meeting with the citizens of Teriberka on Monday.

Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) confirmed to BarentsObserver, that Teriberka is taken out of border zone and is open for normal traffic. That means there is no longer need for a Special permission to get there.

The opening of Teriberka is an important precondition for the development of the project. As the Shtokman development AG informed the timelines for production start-up of the gas field in the Barents Sea is the end of 2013. Moreover, an LNG plant will be built in the town which is located around 13 miles from Murmansk. The LNG production will start in 2014. That means a port terminal and other installations have to be constructed.

Weather forecast for Teriberka

Teriberka is a village in Kolskij District in the Murmansk region. It is located at the shore of the Barents Sea, at the mouth of the Teriberka River, app. 130 kilometers northeast of the city of Murmansk. The village consists of two parts: “old” Teriberka (where Shtokman-related development will take place) and “new” Teriberka (Lodejnoe), a Soviet-style area where most of the inhabitants live. The Shtokman field is located in the central part of the shelf of the Russian sector of the Barents Sea, app. 550-600 kilometers northeast of Murmansk, about 320 – 350 meters below sea level. C1+Ń2 reserves amount to 3.8 trillion cubic meters of gas and about 37 million tons of gas condensate. The Shtokman gas and condensate field was discovered in 1988. The fishing village of Teriberka (130 kilometer northeast of Murmansk) will be the main hub for the Shtokman activities. [ more ]
